The plan is to take him after all the people leave the Passover. But Jesus says the Passover begins in two days and the Son of man is betrayed to be crucified. Day 2 is here.
Jesus arrives in Gethsemane, he is betrayed by Judas and arrested, not because Annas and the High Priest arranged his capture... but because Jesus was orchestrating their every decision and move.
The temple guard and the Roman officers led Jesus to Annas first who was High Priest last year. According to Jewish law, no single individual could act as judge in a capital case, but this would not stop Annas from privately interrogating Jesus first.
Isaiah 53:7 He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth.
While Jesus was bound before Caiaphas it is as if Jesus can see through the walls of the temple as Peter began to deny that he knew this man.
The cock crew and Jesus was led to the pit.
The hours passed, but Jesus was not concerned for he knew the scriptures...
Psalm 40:1 (To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David.) I waited patiently for the LORD; and he inclined unto me, and heard my cry.2 He brought me up also out of an horrible pit, out of the miry clay, and set my feet upon a rock, and established my goings. Nothing happened to Him outside of His control. Jesus was in complete power as he was led to His trial, sentence, and crucifixion. He could have stopped everything at a moment but He emptied Himself, taking on the form of a servant, in the likeness of men He humbled Himself and became obedient to death on the cross. Early in the judgement hall Pilate washed his hands and released a robber named Barabbas and Jesus is scourged beyond recognition and crowned with thorns. Isaiah 52:14 As many were astonied at thee; his visage was so marred more than any man, and his form more than the sons of men:
And they took Jesus, and led him away to a place called the place of a skull, Golgotha and there they crucified him with two others, one on either side, and Jesus in the midst.
The nails were driven into his hands and feet.
They parted his garments.
They cast lots.
Gave him vinegar to drink.
"My God, My God why hast thou forsaken me"
They pierced his side.
And they watched him there...
"It is finished"
Salvation is complete.
The sacrificial death of Jesus on the cross is the ultimate offering, the only satisfactory payment that covers all the sins, guilt, shame, and suffering of humanity from the Garden of Eden into all eternity. Praise God!
Today... Jesus became my substitute.
14 For the love of Christ constraineth us; because we thus judge, that if one died for all, then were all dead:15 And that he died for all, that they which live should not henceforth live unto themselves, but unto him which died for them, and rose again.
16 Wherefore henceforth know we no man after the flesh: yea, though we have known Christ after the flesh, yet now henceforth know we him no more.
17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.
18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;
19 To wit, that God was in Christ, reconciling the world unto himself, not imputing their trespasses unto them; and hath committed unto us the word of reconciliation.
20 Now then we are ambassadors for Christ, as though God did beseech you by us: we pray you in Christ's stead, be ye reconciled to God.
21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him.
Heavenly Father, Thank you Lord for loving us first, shewing yourself and teaching us, and for taking my place. In Jesus name, Amen
